So Lisa, you might ask. Why is your sweet baby Lauren strapped into her car seat wearing only a diaper?
Well that is an interesting story. It started with an innocent trip to Chick-Fil-A and Lowes this morning. Bryan needed a few things at the big box store so we decided to swing by CFA for some breakfast and some playtime for the toddler. I grabbed the diaper caddy that had some wipes and a diaper for each girl in it and stuffed in it my purse on the way out the door.
So CFA was uneventful. I did change Lauren’s diaper there because it was starting to sag a tad. We made it to Lowes where Hayden and Bryan ran in to quickly grab two things and Lauren and I sat in the back of the minivan so she could nurse.
Things were going along swimmingly until I sat her up to burp…at which point not only did she burp but also totally blew out her diaper. I just sat there and watched yellow poo ooze up the back and sides of her jammies. She just sat there and smiled looking much relieved. (At this point Bryan admitted he would have pulled out his cell phone and called me in the store to come out and assist—not that he would have ever been out there nursing…)
So there I am in the van, no changing pad, no diaper, no change of clothes, a total of like 4 wipes, and a baby completely covered in poop. At home we would have just stripped her and thrown her in the tub. Thankfully I found an old blanket in the back. Cleaned that girl up. Wrapped the jammies, dirty diaper and wipes in the blanket and put Hayden’s diaper on her. (that explanation sounds kind of simplistic, but I’m sure it looked more like a Three Stooges episode where I was trying to not let poop baby touch anything in the car while arranging a safe surface to place and change her.)
All in all we were able to laugh about the situation on the way home with the dirty jammies being the only casualty.
Dear Lauren, you may not appreciate this story when you are older, but when things like this happen Mommy reserves the right to record it. It’s like hazard pay.
Definitely have the right to record that! Ha. I bet it was not funny at the moment, but thanks for the smile while I read the recap!
