Milestone-She Sits

IMG_8394Lauren has been sitting up unassisted for over a week now.  But it wasn’t until today that she lasted long enough we felt comfortable putting it in the books.  She still lists to the side occasionally and will also take a tumble backward, but we have her on a core strengthening regime with the hope of increasing her longevity.  We are very proud of our little sitter.

IMG_8396 We promise she isn’t always this solemn.IMG_8363This is what happens when she lists to the side… IMG_8364 Just makes me want to squish and kiss all over her little face…so I do.  I’m her mother. It’s expected.

We Still Heart Zidane

Made this shirt for Hayden back in the day.  Bryan considers Zidane to be the greatest soccer/futbol player of this generation.  He is also Bryan’s all time favorite.  Hayden wore the shirt with pride and was so excited to pass the shirt on to Lauren in a very moving ceremony…

Okay, there wasn’t a ceremony (unless you count me pulling it out of the plastic bin where its been stored for a year and throwing it in the wash) but it felt like there should have been.  It’s so much fun to see Lauren wearing some of the things that Hayden wore. In Hayden’s words, “It was mine, but now I’m sharing it with baby Lauren.” (Lord, please let this attitude of gracious sharing continue into the future.)

Please forgive the blurry photos.

Milestone-1st Oatmeal

IMG_8257At Lauren’s 4 month appointment the doctor said we could start some cereal.  He said that we didn’t have to, but it might help her sleep at night.  We gave it a try, but as I wasn’t really planning to start any solids until at least 6 months I wasn’t all that disappointed that it didn’t take.

Lauren may not have enjoyed the cereal, but she was sure cute trying it out.

IMG_8279IMG_8277  She disliked the bib.

She spit out all the oatmeal.

She wanted out of the high chair stat.

Oatmeal Fail.

I Wuv You

The last few weeks have been filled with the sweetest words: I Wuv You.  Hayden has been talking up a storm for many months now, but had never said those three little words.  We would tell her we loved her and she would just smile and laugh and say “no” like it was the silliest thing.

But last week she came and laid her head in my lap and said, “I wuv you Mommy.” I mopped up my melted heart and told her I loved her too.  Since then she will say it back to us when we say it to her, but the sweetest thing is still when she says it out of the blue.

This milestone may be even better than the first smile and the first step.

Four Months of Lauren

IMG_8294-1 Lauren Elizabeth turned four months old on Monday.  To celebrate we took a trip to see Dr. Straughn for her well visit.  Her stats are: 16.6 lbs. (96%), 24.5 inches (70%), 16+ inches head circumference (85%).

She is doing fabulous! (except for the double ear infection she had when we went.)

Lauren has her two front bottom teeth.  She is starting to stay awake for longer stretches and is proving to be a very happy baby.  The one thing we wish she was doing better at is her night sleeping.  I think she is regressing.  The doctor suggested we wait until her ears are clear and then try to persuade her to eat more during the day and sleep at night.  Apparently she likes her calories spread out over the entire 24 hours.

Lauren likes to sit in her Bumbo chair, watch her sister run around, take long baths, drink milk, ride in the sling, and make faces at Daddy.  We sure are enjoying that girl!

Picnik collage Lord, thank you for our sweet baby Lauren!

Ring Around The Rosies

Quick trip to the store…

IMG_8134-1So Lisa, you might ask.  Why is your sweet baby Lauren strapped into her car seat wearing only a diaper?

Well that is an interesting story.  It started with an innocent trip to Chick-Fil-A and Lowes this morning.  Bryan needed a few things at the big box store so we decided to swing by CFA for some breakfast and some playtime for the toddler. I grabbed the diaper caddy that had some wipes and a diaper for each girl in it and stuffed in it my purse on the way out the door.

So CFA was uneventful. I did change Lauren’s diaper there because it was starting to sag a tad.  We made it to Lowes where Hayden and Bryan ran in to quickly grab two things and Lauren and I sat in the back of the minivan so she could nurse.

Things were going along swimmingly until I sat her up to burp…at which point not only did she burp but also totally blew out her diaper.  I just sat there and watched yellow poo ooze up the back and sides of her jammies.  She just sat there and smiled looking much relieved.  (At this point Bryan admitted he would have pulled out his cell phone and called me in the store to come out and assist—not that he would have ever been out there nursing…)

So there I am in the van, no changing pad, no diaper, no change of clothes, a total of like 4 wipes, and a baby completely covered in poop.  At home we would have just stripped her and thrown her in the tub.  Thankfully I found an old blanket in the back.  Cleaned that girl up.  Wrapped the jammies, dirty diaper and wipes in the blanket and put Hayden’s diaper on her.  (that explanation sounds kind of simplistic, but I’m sure it looked more like a Three Stooges episode where I was trying to not let poop baby touch anything in the car while arranging a safe surface to place and change her.)

All in all we were able to laugh about the situation on the way home with the dirty jammies being the only casualty.

IMG_8138 IMG_8139 IMG_8140 Dear Lauren, you may not appreciate this story when you are older, but when things like this happen Mommy reserves the right to record it.  It’s like hazard pay.
