Our Lil’ Irish

IMG_7173 A friend of Bryan’s at SMU, who knows of Bryan’s love for Notre Dame football, got Lauren a Lil’ Irish cap.  For now it fits best on Hayden and she assures us she will share it with Lauren when she outgrows it.

I know that Bryan has already been out on the ND fan store site checking out the gear for this upcoming season.  I’m sure that we will be an athletic supporting family come the fall.  GO IRISH!

Tee Tee IN The Potty

IMG_7010

When we asked about potty training with Hayden at her 18 month checkup the doctor encouraged us to wait until this summer to begin.  He said that with all the changes (new baby = changes/upheaval for a toddler…who knew) and with her young age that waiting would be best.  We would probably avoid regression and retraining and also the warmer temps, fewer layers of clothes and improvement in communication would all make things easier.  Bryan and I were happy to comply with his suggestion.

Hayden on the other hand was more ready to investigate the mysteries that the potty held.  She started to let us know when she had finished “going” in her diaper and would occasionally want to sit on the big potty.  I bought her the $3 potty at Ikea and put it in her bathroom.  (small investment) She would sit on it before her bath and would ask to sit on it every few days, but would never do anything.  Bryan and I didn’t push her to use the potty though we would comply with her wish to sit and try.

Whelp, the other day IT happened.  Success!  Tee Tee IN the Potty!  She was very excited, though Bryan is pretty sure it was pure coincidence.  I immediately requested a picture…which shows that Hayden’s daddy let’s her use way more toilet paper than I do.

IMG_7012We swear there is tee tee in there somewhere!

So even though the real training is going to wait for awhile longer, we are encouraged that she won’t be going to kindergarten in diapers.

What a big girl she is getting to be!!!

Two Weeks of Lauren

IMG_7050

Lauren had her two week well check with Dr. S. on Friday.  She is doing fan-tab-u-lous!

She started out at birth at 7 lbs. 8 oz. and 20 inches and is currently 9 lbs. and 21 inches.  She is in the 85% for weight, 90% for height and 70% for princess crown (head circumference.) Having an average to above average size baby is such a new experience for us.  Hayden was always hanging on to the low end of the growth chart by her little finger nails.  The doctor says Lauren will slow down a bit and things will probably average out, but man is it nice not to worry about every little ounce that your baby is or isn’t getting to eat.  (She is obviously getting more than enough!)

Lauren is starting to sleep better at night…which means I’m sleeping better at night—yea me! Her eyes are starting to lighten up and her head control is improving.  It is so much fun cuddling a newborn again and looking forward to all the fun stages we know are in store!

22 Months Of Hayden

IMG_6534

Two months away from being 2 years old!  It is so hard to believe that the time is absolutely flying by.

Hayden is so much fun. Her vocabulary is growing by leaps and she is learning new words every day.  She has hit some of the “terrible twos” recently with the acquisition and prolific use of the word “mine” and variations such as “me” and “my’s”. She is very good at using polite terms such as “please” and “yes, mama” and “yes, daddy” though they are often followed quickly by lots of whining if the polite part doesn’t get the correct response…and quickly. Aww, whining. Another good reason God made her so cute.

Hayden knows most of her colors and several of her shapes. When asked she will usually tell you her favorite color is blue, though sometimes pink has also been claimed.  She has started “counting” things though usually the sequence goes something like, “one, six, three…” Not quite there yet.  We haven’t started any actual structured learning time (despite my best intentions) but try to work some accidental learning in while playing.  Probably all we will do for a time.

Lauren has brought some obvious change to Hayden’s insular little world. IMG_6940-2Hayden is very sweet with her sister and likes to kiss her and pat her. (We have to watch that she doesn’t smother her with too much love.)  Hayden has been a little more clingy with Bryan and perhaps a little more strong willed than normal (read – temper tantrums) but we figure things will smooth out with time.  We truly have been so blessed in her response and can’t wait to see as the girls grow from just sisters to friends.

Hayden has developed a fondness for the camera recently.  She has developed quite the attractive “Cheese” face…IMG_6800and always wants to do “more, more, more” pictures. We are more than happy to oblige her!  Can you get too much of this cuteness?

Lord, thank you for our sweet “Big Girl” Hayden.  How we grow to love her more every day!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day…a little late.

Hayden sported her green all day and was quite the hit at Chick-Fil-A’s playground where she went for lunch with Bryan.  Lauren and I stayed at home, but attempted to get in the spirit with our own little homage to the holiday.

IMG_7013IMG_7032 IMG_7033 IMG_7046 Lots of kisses, but no pinches!

Lord, thank you for our two little blessings in green!

Week One-Check

IMG_6879

The first week has passed…some parts of it more quickly than others.  Things we’d forgotten since girl 1…

  1. babies poop—a lot.  all the time.  at the most inconvenient times.
  2. babies prefer to sleep during the daytime.
  3. to get out of the house you should leave lots of extra time as the baby will decide it is starving as you are getting in the car.
  4. nursing a baby makes me hungry…very, very hungry. at all hours of the day and NIGHT.
  5. cuddling a baby makes watching sports more tolerable.

A  big thanks to my mom and mother-in-law for all their invaluable help.  We are “on our own” for the next 4 days until the next wave of help gets here.  It’s been 2 hours…I think I can do this.  Maybe.

Windows Live Writer

I’ve made some changes. You won’t be able to tell unless you read this and say to yourself, “man, that Team Chamness Blog looks much more together now.”  I started this blog in Blogger and let me tell you…I’ve been frustrated on a regular basis.  Sentences seem to go where they please, spacing is in a constant state of adjustment and getting pictures to be in the correct placement is a MAJOR hassle. (I’m positive non of this is user related…)

So being the lazy blogger I am So being the resigned blogger I am I suffered through.  I did no research on other options, checked out no other programs, just pretended to be satisfied with the mediocrity of our little family blog. Until I read someone else’s blog about how they hated writing in Blogger and started using Windows Live Writer.

You compose and edit your blog in Writer and then upload it to your Blogger account. So easy and with much better features.  For all you lazy discontent Blogger users, I highly recommend trying it out…

(btw—I’m totally writing this Thursday night from the hospital while hooked up to all kinds of monitors trying to not be too bored.  Obviously not much is happening here. Come on Deucie!)

Deucie, Come Out Already!

So we are trying again tonight for the induction.  We went in Tuesday night and after 10 hours on Cervadil and then 8 hours of Pitocin we had only gotten to 2 cms.  Totally depressing!  Our doctor told us that if we wanted to continue increasing the Pitocin we could but she couldn’t see us fully dilating at that point so we would probably end up with a c-section.  We could go ahead and elect a c-section or we could check out, go home, rest and try again.  We chose try again…though obviously we aren’t guaranteed non surgical results tonight either.

We aren’t real sure what the kid is waiting for.  We’ve given her ample time to grow and develop.  We finished her nursery, washed all her clothes and have even tried to teach her older sister how to be “gentle” with the baby.  We are now at 42 weeks+.  I may give birth to a toddler.

Instead of blaming the kid perhaps I should be writing a note to the cervix…

Dear Stubborn Cervix,

Please consider opening up so that baby Deucie can come out.  You aren’t making things any easier on yourself in the long run.

Love,

Lisa

Thanks to everyone who has prayed, texted, emailed, Facebooked, and called.  Please continue doing so.  We are pretty sure she will be out soon…right, Lord?
