When we asked about potty training with Hayden at her 18 month checkup the doctor encouraged us to wait until this summer to begin. He said that with all the changes (new baby = changes/upheaval for a toddler…who knew) and with her young age that waiting would be best. We would probably avoid regression and retraining and also the warmer temps, fewer layers of clothes and improvement in communication would all make things easier. Bryan and I were happy to comply with his suggestion.
Hayden on the other hand was more ready to investigate the mysteries that the potty held. She started to let us know when she had finished “going” in her diaper and would occasionally want to sit on the big potty. I bought her the $3 potty at Ikea and put it in her bathroom. (small investment) She would sit on it before her bath and would ask to sit on it every few days, but would never do anything. Bryan and I didn’t push her to use the potty though we would comply with her wish to sit and try.
Whelp, the other day IT happened. Success! Tee Tee IN the Potty! She was very excited, though Bryan is pretty sure it was pure coincidence. I immediately requested a picture…which shows that Hayden’s daddy let’s her use way more toilet paper than I do.
We swear there is tee tee in there somewhere!
So even though the real training is going to wait for awhile longer, we are encouraged that she won’t be going to kindergarten in diapers.
What a big girl she is getting to be!!!
I always knew she was a genius child!
