The doctor didn’t tell us when he put the cast on Hayden that she would have to relearn to walk when it was removed. I’m sure he omitted that info on purpose. We can only take so much at a time.
Anyway, the relearning process has been slow…read: non existent. H. has had no interest in putting any weight on her right leg. At two weeks I called the pediatric orthopedist. I spoke briefly with his PA (long enough to know that H. should have made some progress by now) and was told she would speak with the doctor and call back. That hasn’t happened, but I did take that as permission to speak plainly with Hayden about what she needed to do.
Yesterday afternoon I told her the doctor said she had to start practicing by holding my hands and moving that leg. To say she was reluctant is an understatement, but she did it. And we have continued to practice today. Here is her cruising debut:
We are very proud of Hayden. We seriously thought Lauren might walk before her…
I selfishly admit that it will be so nice to have at least one kid who walks. I’ve gotten way too good at carrying two kids at once. Of course now I might have to start going to the gym…please, who am I kidding.
Wow. I would have never known she had to re-learn. You win super mom of the year award.
